The latest news shows that the EU has increased its imports of Russian LNG by 40% this year. The total value of this purchase was €12.5 billion euros from January to September 2022, five times more than a year earlier!
However not all of Europe is guilty of this blood money purchasing with the UK cutting Russian LNG imports to zero. This is something to be extremely proud of here in the UK, and makes sure that no British cash goes into Putin’s war machine to kill innocent men, women and children in Ukraine. Luckily we will not be tarnished by the actions of a corrupt EU.
On the other end of this extreme is Macron’s France, who is the largest buyer of Russian LNG in the world (unbelievable right!?) The French for all their talk about defending innocent Ukraine and the borders of its beloved EU from Russian aggression, have imported 4.45 million tonnes of Russian LNG, 52% more than last year. We can see this in a report from Columbia University’s Centre on Global Energy Policy. This can be seen below is a bar chart from their report using data from Bloomberg.
Just note how anti-Brexit Bloomberg has given the United Kingdom a colour that is extremely close to Japan, which is one of the largest importers of Russian LNG. Is that simply a coincidence or do they not want people to easily see how Brexit has allowed an independent UK to cut its imports of Russian LNG to zero without EU interference. Why would you give a country with the lowest score a colour that is very similar to one with the highest scores? It makes no sense unless you are trying to disguise / hide this good news about the UK. I will leave you to make up your own minds but it feels extremely strange to me.
As we can see the UK cut Russian LNG imports to zero while the EU continues to fund Putin’s war machine by buying Russian LNG. We are doing the right thing and helping our friend Ukraine resist a totalitarian dictatorship’s invasion, rrgardless of the cost to our own energy prices and economy. The EU, and France in particular, merely pay lip service to these ideals and try to hide the fact they are paying for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the weapons they are using there. Even when future, potential EU countries are invaded on the EU’s own borders, the EU puts money ahead of its own defence (or should I say France and Germany make sure the EU puts their economic interests and first). It just goes to show how impotent the EU really is, and how an independent UK is much better off to make its own decisions, which puts its own interests and ideals first, not Germany’s and France’s.
