I came across some good economic news, which I was quite surprised at. No, not because I wasn’t expecting good news for the UK economy (I leave the doom and gloom for the mainstream media and newspapers!)

The reason I was surprised was the fact that I had not heard it before, even though I research finance and financial news articles everyday. At first I didn’t believe it was true so I googled it, and I found out it was true. Oatly, the Swedish plant based, alternative milk manufacturer / company, was opening a giant new oat milk factory in Peterborough, England.

Surely this can’t be true? We keep being told that Brexit has made the UK an uncompetitive basket case by media like the Guardian and Financial Times (FT). Now the Financial Times, which has completely lost all its integrity since Brexit, is well known for its anti Brexit coverage. It is a common joke amongst people who work in finance and who read the FT that it has utterly lost the plot, and been driven mad by the UK leaving the EU. The vast amount of financial coverage it puts out is spun in a way to make the UK look not just bad, but worse than all of the EU countries. Any good news is buried in the body of the text so as to hide it, and goods news is twisted to make it seem bad. It is an extremely serious problem that nodmbody seems to be dealing with. God know what Ofcom is doing and why they aren’t getting involved. Everyone knows it is happening and I would not be surprised if this in itself is reducing investment into the UK as the FT is still influencial (although losing its influence day by day to the digital media of the future).

I searched the FT and could not find this massive news anywhere, even though it covers Oatly and has other Oatly news  stories.

Obviously Oatly building on of the world’s biggest plant milk factories in the UK is not newsworthy for a financial newspaper.Or perhaps they simply don’t want people to know that large foreign, multinational companies are still investing and manufacturing here in the UK.
